Less than three weeks before FOX Sports ushers in a new era of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, the sanctioning body has announced a host of leadership changes, including the addition of a new series president.
Per a release to the media Tuesday morning, Penske Entertainment announced that Jay Frye, president of the American open-wheel division for the past ten years, will step away from the position, effective immediately. Doug Boles, who has served as president of Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 2013, will remain in that role and simultaneously replace Frye as the series’ president.
In a statement, INDYCAR CEO Mark Miles said “Doug is the ideal choice to lead both INDYCAR and IMS as we enter a new era of opportunity and visibility. He’s an exceptional leader and motivator who is appreciated by our fans and respected by our owners, drivers, partners and additional key stakeholders.”
Among Boles’ accomplishments as Indianapolis Motor Speedway president include oversight of the track’s first ever full-capacity sellout for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 in 2016, as well as organization of a successful pandemic-era running of the event four years later. Boles also has prior experience in the INDYCAR garage, previously serving as the Chief Operating Officer at Panther Racing. The move is the latest in a growing trend of homogenization of leadership between the series and its signature venue since Roger Penske’s purchase of both in 2019.
In the release, Boles said “racing is in my DNA, and no form of racing resonates more personally and strongly with me than the NTT INDYCAR SERIES. I’m honored to lead the amazing team at INDYCAR, and I truly believe the future is bigger and brighter than ever for our sport and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I’m extremely grateful to Mark Miles for this opportunity, and fans can rest assured the hard work is already under way and 2025 will be a fantastic season.”
Along with the presidential swap, Penske Entertainment announced that longtime INDYCAR management team member Mark Sibila has been promoted to the position of Senior Vice President, while Kyle Novak becomes the division’s Vice President of Officiating and Racing Control. Additionally, Alex Damron will serve as INDYCAR’s Chief Marketing Officer, and Louis Kissinger is the new General Manager of operations at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season begins March 2 on the streets of St. Petersburg.
